When Anything Means Everything

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

This is the ultimate calling of a follower of Jesus, isn’t it? This is far easier said than done, isn’t it? But it is not an impossible calling. The fulfillment of this call requires an “Anything” kind of prayer. You may not know what that is or what that looks like.

Let me tell you…It is a prayer of absolute surrender. It is a prayer that will set some things in motion. It is a prayer that will change everything!

One of my Top 10 Fave People is Jennie Allen and not only because we share the same last name. In 2011, she released a book entitled Anything: The Prayer That Unlocked My God And My Soul. And that it did! The Holy Spirit used this book to revolutionize the way that I thought about prayer and the actual way that I prayed. Just recently, she re-released a revised edition of her book along with a Bible Study. I am going for Round 2 with this book. I truly believe that there is always something new that The Lord wants to teach us about intimacy with Him, His character and how He moves.

I’m linking up this week  to share my “Anything” story. Mine is not one on some grand scale. Mine is simple. I have been learning that my wants and dreams and desires apart from Christ can’t and won’t accomplish anything. But, when they are filtered through the will of God, an infinite amount of possibilities follow. I want to pursue God and the things of God more than I ever want to pursue my own wants. My desires will leave me empty and always wanting more. Fulfilling His purposes will satisfy me and bring me immense joy and purpose. I don’t ever want to hold so tight to anything in my life that He cannot use it to further His Kingdom and bring Himself glory. I am not an owner of anything…not my time, my talent, my friends or family, my possessions, my hopes or dreams.  I am only a steward. They are God breathed and God given.

Shifting my perspective has been one of the best and sweetest occurrences in my life. I’m beginning to count the cost of what it means to follow Jesus. And I have decided that He is worth it. He is worth the loss of anything. He is worth the gain of anything. He is the One I love, long for and seek wholeheartedly. He is worth being uncomfortable for or persecuted because of. He is worth any joy or any pain.

My Anything Has Become Everything.

I trade all of me in exchange for all of Him…

Willingly

Gladly

Obediently

Expectantly

All for His glory!

What is your Anything? What is God calling you to surrender in order for Him to unlock your soul?
