They are pretty much the same thing, right? Almost, but not quite. They both involve a future something that hasn’t occurred yet. But one of these relies on my effort and one of these relies on the work of the Lord.
If you haven’t figured it out, expectation is all me and it is usually dependent on something that I have done or haven’t done. If I studied for a test, I’d expect to get an A. If I worked hard at my job, I’d expect to get a promotion or raise.
Now hope, on the other hand, is God’s business. It has nothing to do with us. He is the God of hope. He is the author and sustainer of hope. That is His desire for His beloved children.
He breathes hope.
He speaks hope.
He is hope.
Walk forward in the hope of Christ. Believe that He has nothing less planned for you. Hold on to this truth even when circumstances aren’t clear. Move from expectation to hope.
“For I know the plans I have for you. declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Are you expecting or hoping?
