“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35
“At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.” Luke 4:42
Both of these verses set a standard for us by Jesus Himself. The New Testament is filled with countless stories of Jesus ministering to crowds and pouring Himself out in every way imaginable. That can be utterly exhausting! Jesus knew this and He knew that the only way that He could minister effectively was to have time alone with God.
He knew that time alone with the Father wouldn’t just happen, He would have to be intentional in making it happen. Often times we have a desire to spend time with God but we don’t want to put forth the effort into actually making it happen.
It is a choice.
It will take effort.
Those are the facts. If Jesus deemed it necessary to make this time a priority, how much more important is it for us to? God longs for one on one, intimate, unhurried time with us. I pray that we would come to long for this time as much as He does.
Is it hard for you to carve out time with God? Why or why not?
