The Best Kind Of Rest {Rest}

These two verses in Genesis chapter 2 are sometimes confusing…

By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”  Genesis 2:2-3

It says that God rested. Isn’t resting something that we do when we are tired. Well God doesn’t ever sleep or slumber. So why does He need rest? Notice the first part of that verse. It says that God completed His work.

God worked when He created the entire universe. And then it says that He blessed this day of rest. I truly believe that this is principle that holds true today.

God honors work.

God blesses rest.

Rest is the reward from hard work. When God gives us a task or job, we are to be good stewards of that and put all of our effort into it. This will lead to a full and restorative rest that God desires for us. We will be rejuvenated and prepared for what comes next.

Often times, we work and work and work and ignore the rest aspect. We feel like we are wasting time or like we’ll be more productive if we don’t rest. But it’s simply not true.

Do you rest well? Why or why not?

    I do not rest easily and buy the lie that I’m wasting time. But I’m getting better!

      That’s great Trisha! I am not great at resting but I want to be so that I can run this race with endurance. Blessings to you today!

    Beautiful!!! All that He calls us to is rest. Even work done with His leading can be a sort of “restful” work. I LOVE this! I’ve learned in the past several years more about grace and rest than I have my 45 years of life {37 of salvation}. Adam was cursed to toil and work the ground with the sweat of his brow. Jesus was the last Adam. He broke the sin curse. PRAISE HIM! Now, while man is indeed called to work, we are not called to toil. And rest . . . it’s the one thing to fear lest we do not enter into it {Hebrews 4:1}. Salvation is a rest. Every thing He has for us is a beautiful rest. Even the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a rest. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!!!
